TAKING THE BREEZE
As we came to know the island character very well - which sites are best for which sorts of tents, what kinds of winds prevail at various parts of the island - we soon sold all our old style center-pole "circus tents" and took on the job of designing in cooperation with one of the world's leading tent makers our own exclusive "Pinnacle"® peaked tents. Strong, beautiful, truly waterproof as opposed to the sail cloth tent tops which are only water resistant, they fit trim and taut over powerful frames giving a crisp, clean appearance and they stand up to high wind.
Because the tents are framed instead of supported by center poles, the perimeter poles require only a minimum number of tie-down ropes therefore allowing the butting together of multiple tents without compromising the integrity of the structure. Inside, the open no center pole design is truly an amazing space! Add a billowy tent liner - oh, it's heaven!

An interesting historical note:
The family of our founder, Tebby Tilton, came to Marthas Vineyard generations ago from Tilton, a village in England, which was, in days of yore when knights and pageantry were most popular, a place of jousting. Participants and spectators of the games were housed in tents. Therefore, as you will find on the web site which researches last names, TILTON and TENT are synonymous.
TILTON origin: Derived from Tilton, a village in England, probably an ancient place of tilting, or tents. Tilt, Saxon, a tent.
